This Easter bank holiday we鈥檙e ramping up our upgrade of Mirfield station in West Yorkshire.
It will bring us one step closer to running more frequent, faster and cleaner electric trains through the area and building a more accessible station for you.
Adapting the station for electric trains
We鈥檒l continue working to upgrade the railway and station here to allow longer and faster electric trains to pass through. We鈥檒l carry on building a new platform over Easter and install 748 metres of track.
This work will continue until December when we鈥檒l finish building a further second platform and new tracks, ready for the station to fully open at Christmas.
The new tracks and additional platforms will help us run separate fast and slower trains on the route at the same time 鈥� giving you more reliable and more frequent services.
A more accessible station
Our upgrade of Mirfield station also involves making it more accessible.
We first removed the bridge deck on Station Road and finished piling work 鈥� or laying the foundations for new building work 鈥� over Christmas. This bank holiday, we鈥檒l finish building a new station entrance. We鈥檒l also install a new footbridge and lifts later this year. The lifts will take you directly from the road to the platform 鈥� for step-free access throughout the station.
Our teams will also improve the car park with new blue badge parking areas and better cycle storage.
Transforming travel in the north
This upgrade work forms an important part of our 拢11bn that鈥檒l improve almost all of the 23 stations along the 70-mile route between York and Manchester. We鈥檝e already made significant strides to improve other stations on the route, including Morley and Leeds.
It鈥檚 not just Mirfield getting an extra railway line either. We鈥檙e doubling the number of tracks from two to four all the way from Huddersfield to Dewsbury. It鈥檚 part of our commitment to give you better journeys throughout.
Check before you travel
We鈥檒l need to close sections of the railway between Huddersfield and Dewsbury to allow our teams to safely carry out the work. Please check your journeys across the Pennines from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April.

There鈥檒l be diversionary routes and rail replacement buses to keep you moving along the Transpennine route, with amended timetables also in place.
Station Road at Mirfield will also close, meaning there will be a longer walk than usual from the station to the rail replacement bus locations on Huddersfield Road.
