New platforms at South Bermondsey station

Over Christmas and New Year, we are installing new platforms at South Bermondsey station

Project timeline

From Saturday 27 December 2025 until Sunday 4 January 2026.

What work is taking place?

From Saturday 27 December 2025 until Sunday 4 January 2026, South Bermondsey station will be closed as the platforms are rebuilt.

The work will involve removing the current platforms and building new platforms on both sides of the station, platform strengthening works, surfacing work, upgrading the drainage and repairing the concrete foundations that support the platforms.

The work will involve using screw piling to create the new foundations for the platforms. This method is faster, more efficient and quieter than other methods of piling and causes the least disruption. The piles are made of steel and are twisted into the ground.

Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of our work on local residents as much as we possibly can.

How will this work affect me?

Why is the work needed?

The platforms date back to the 1970s, when the original 1928 wooden platforms were replaced with the current precast concrete trestle construction which is in a poor state.

These works will extend the life of the platform and make sure it remains safe for the public to use.
