Petts Wood station footbridge refurbishment
We are carrying out vital refurbishment work on the footbridge at Petts Wood station to ensure it remains safe, reliable, and fit for the future.

The current footbridge has largely been in place since 1946, however some parts of the structure date from as far back as 1926. While the structure has received regular maintenance over the years, the time has come for a full refurbishment.
What work are we doing?
To keep the footbridge safe and open for passengers we will:
- replace the deck of the footbridge
- strengthen the structure
- repair drainage
- repair to the soffits, stairs and treads
- install new tactile paving to platform and landings
- high pressure water jetting and full re-painting of the footbridge
- wiring and lighting upgrade works to the station building and all platforms.
How will passengers be impacted by the work?
To minimise disruption and keep passengers moving, the work will be carried out in carefully planned phases.
Monday 17 November 2025 to Monday 26 January 2026
From Monday 17 November 2025 to Monday 26 January 2026 the central section of the bridge will close meaning there will be no through access between platforms 1 and 2 to 3 and 4.
All trains calling at Petts Wood will stop at platforms 3 and 4, which passengers will be able to access via the Station Square entrance and lifts.
Only in the event of an emergency will trains be diverted to stop at platforms 1 and 2, for which station staff will open the West Approach entrance and lifts for passenger access. Any platform changes will be communicated to all passengers as promptly as possible by Southeastern station staff.Â

Monday 26 January to Monday 30 March 2026
From Monday 26 January to Monday 30 March 2026 the Station square section of the footbridge will close. Passengers must access all platforms via the Western Approach entrance, including platform 4 which will still be accessible via the footbridge and lifts.

Diversion routes and taxis
To cross the tracks and access platforms on the other side of the station when work is underway, people are advised to use the signposted diversion route which takes people over the public footbridge connecting Petts Wood Road with Queensway Road.

A taxi service will also be available for those who require accessibility support to get from one platform to another during the three phases of the footbridge closure.
If you need assistance to get to another platform, please speak to a member of station staff who will be happy to arrange for the taxi to take you to the other side of the station.
The taxi service will only be available during the station opening times. Petts Wood station building, and ticket office will remain open and accessible for the duration of the works.
Southeastern Assisted Travel service will be available on 0800 783 4524.
